Hey guys, are you in the mood for ice cream? I am sure you are. Everybody always is. I made this one mainly for my boyfriend. When we started dating he didn’t know what to think about veganism. Couple of months later he was vegetarian, the only thing keeping him from going vegan was ice cream, thank good I love to prepare food. He is a happy vegan now. There is very little choice when it comes to delicious vegan ice cream in Graz. Within the last few months I found some store bought alternatives. So long story short, what we want is ice cream, preferably homemade.
– HAZELNUT CHOCOLATE ICE-CREAM –
Bananas make great a ice cream base. They are super healthy and deliciously sweet and creamy. Only use ripe ones, as you can see on the picture above they should be spotty. Slightly green or those „perfect“ looking bananas are just not ripe yet. Their high starch content will cause constipation. Keep them for a couple of days so the resistant starch changes to simple sugar. They are going to taste so much sweeter. Read the rest of the recipe below. If you have a high speed blender you change it up by using frozen bananas, this way you don’t have to freeze and stir your ice cream for 3 hours. If you not, this is a great way of having creamy ice cream, without much equipment needed.

– 5 tbsp. of cacao powder
– 5 tbsp. of ground hazelnuts

1. Peel bananas and place in food processor with cacao powder and vanilla sugar until mass is creamy, you might have to add 1-2 tablespoons of water (or more, depending on your food processor and bananas).
2. Bring mass into your preferred dish, one that fits in your freezer.
3. Now chop chocolate and slowly stir into your ice-cream mass. Add ground hazelnuts as well.
4. Place into freezer for at least 3 hours, and stir every 30 minutes. Serve with some more ground hazelnuts on top. Enjoy.
Hazelnuts are very high in energy and rich in folate, vitamin E, copper and manganese. Altogether they help protect from diseases and cancers as well as they help protecting the skin from harmful oxygen-free radicals, which can cause skin cancer and premature aging. Opt for hazelnuts if you have heart problems as well as conditions like parkinsons. Moreover they are very high in B Vitamins, which is used throughout the body, particularly for the health of our nervous system.
Cacao is the raw, unprocessed form of chocolate. Cacao beans can be considered a superfood offering a wealth of antioxidants and essential vitamins and minerals, including: magnesium, calcium, zinc, iron, flavonoids and B Vitamins. The flavanols, theobromine and other components found in cacao may lower blood pressure and enhance circulation. They help to stimulate the central nervous system, relax smooth muscles and giving the body a boost of energy.
